A River Valley drug task force team busted what they call an ‘upper level dealer of meth’ Monday night.

Officers seized nearly a pound of methamphetamine, a loaded gun and more than $6,000 in cash from a home on 38th Street in Fort Smith.

Maria Topia and Paz Vega were arrested. Both face several drug charges including trafficking of methamphetamine, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, maintain a premises for drug sales, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a minor. Both of them are being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center without bond.

Investigator Jerry Foley says this is a huge bust for the area.

“This is one of the upper level dealers; she was actually selling in lower quantities to a couple dealers in the area,” he said. According to Foley, the drugs recovered would have been cut and sold on the streets.

The street value of what police recovered is about $40,000.
