Fayetteville residents heard the sound of 90 years of history today, as local churches reenacted a moment from 1922.  It was at that time the Western Methodist Assembly decided to build a retreat center on East Mountain, now known as Mount Sequoyah.

“It was a big deal,” says Richard Massey, “because they knew they were going to build a large meeting ground, faith based, that would last a long time and they were right because here we are 90 years later.

Tonight, churches rang their bells once again, recreating the day the news was announced.

The Mountain was chosen over hilltops across the area such as Mount Magazine, Mena and Siloam Springs.
