Spring break begins Monday leaving parents scrambling to find ways to keep their kids entertained.
Owner and editor of Peek-a-Boo Magazine Kim Enderle says you don't have to take a vacation to enjoy the break. There are several ways to ‘keep it local’ and have fun right here at home.
"We sat down and made a list of everything she [her daughter] wanted to do, you know, so if you have more than one child, you can all sit down and pick days,” says Enderle.
According to Enderle, getting the kids involved in planning makes sure everyone enjoys their week away from school.
Dedicate a day to enjoy the outdoors, says Enderle. Make a day field trip to Hobbs State Park, Devil’s Den, The Gentry Safari, or Janet Huckabee Nature Center. Local parks also offer a variety of activities like flying kites, having picnics, or walking trails.
If you can’t take off work, Enderle says the Little Gym of Rogers is hosting Spring Break day camps with fun activities.
Getting active outdoors is always a popular activity for Spring Break, but with rain in the forecast, it's a good idea to plan for some indoor fun.
"If it's really bad weather, we're probably going to hit the movies and do some kitchen chemistry experiments,” says mother Amanda Coussoule, “I got on the internet, we're going to make a volcano maybe."
Enderle says Pinterest is a good site to find unique arts and crafts. She says you can turn your kitchen into an art studio, or experience crafts at Imagine Studios in Rogers. This art studio also offers Spring Break day camps for students.
"Keeping that learning going, the libraries this week have tons of stuff going on, you know, movie festivals, they also have a lock-in,” says Enderle.
Eat out at your child’s favorite restaurant. Making a frozen yogurt swirl with all the toppings, like at Goody’s Frozen Yogurt, is always a treat.
And don't forget to open up your game closet. After all, Enderle says the most important part about Spring Break is enjoying your time together.
