We are expecting a major storm system to develop over the next 24 hours. It will deliver severe weather and heavy rainfall to the area.

The National Weather Service has issued strong wording, calling for the potential for “catastrophic and life-threatening flooding” by Tuesday.

The greatest threat for today will be a few strong storms capable of producing large hail and gusty winds. Tornadoes are possible as well, but the greatest tornado threat will remain in NE Texas.

As we moved forward to Tuesday, widespread flooding is possible. Heavy rains from storms Monday afternoon and evening will causes creeks and streams to rise.

After this entire system wraps up by Friday, we could end up with a widespread 4-8” of rain, with isolated amounts greater than 12”.

Stay with 5NEWS throughout the day for the severe weather threat, and throughout the rest of the week for the latest on the flood threat.

Flooding kills more people annually than tornadoes, hurricanes, and lightning.  Please do not attempt to cross any flooded roadway.  It only takes 6-12” of swift moving water to remove your vehicle from the road.
