A possible oil spill was spotted in the Arkansas River around 3 p.m. today near the Midland Blvd. Bridge in Fort Smith.

A Coast Guard official says they are uncertain whether the substance is in fact oil, or how much leaked into the water.  He says there doesn’t appear to be anymore leaking, and the substance has moved about two miles downstream.

The Coast Guard is in the beginning stages of an investigation.
