Suspect Accused of Scamming Elderly Woman Arrested
Sarah Ashley Boswell, 27, turned herself in to the Sebastian County Detention Center Tuesday, according to Fort Smith Police.
Boswell was wanted on a theft by deception charge for allegedly taking money from a 90-year-old woman.
According to Sgt. Daniel Grubbs, Boswell posted bond and was released. She chose to speak with an attorney prior to making any statements to Fort Smith investigators, Sgt. Grubbs says.
Police say in March, Boswell allegedly obtained two checks in the amount of $1,800 each from a Fort Smith resident for a new roof. The elderly woman’s son noticed the transactions but told police his mother had not received a new roof or any repairs to the existing roof.
According to police, officers were called to the First National Bank on Phoenix Avenue, a woman attempted to cash one of the $1,800 checks that appeared altered. The woman was later identified as Boswell.
