The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation announced plans Tuesday to cancel the annual Bobby Petrino Charity Golf Classic.

Chris McCreight, Director of Communications and Stewardship at the hospital, released the following statement:

“After consulting with the Petrino family, we are sad to report that Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation has no choice but to cancel the June 18, 2012, golf tournament intended to benefit Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Coach Petrino apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Foundation sincerely thank the Petrino family for their personal support.”

Petrino was fired from his position as the Head Football Coach at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on April 10. Athletics Director Jeff Long chose to fire him after an Arkansas State Police accident report revealed Petrino lied about the fact his coworker and mistress, Jessica Dorrell, was his passenger when he crashed his motorcycle on Highway 16 near the Crosses community in Madison County on April 1.
