Traffic was backed up for nearly four miles Monday morning after they say trash and debris were scattered all over the interstate.
Traffic was reduced to one lane northbound around 8 a.m. as highway crews directed traffic and cleaned up the mess.
The traffic was at a standstill northbound from Wedington all the way through to the Fulbright Expressway.
Fayetteville Police say because of the backup, there was one accident reported.
As of 9 a.m. traffic has resumed without delays.
