Ten new cabins are going up at Lake Fort Smith State Park in northern Crawford County.
Park Superintendent Ron Gossage says three cabins are under construction and seven more are on the way. Five of the cabins will have a two-bedroom floor plan. The other five will be one-bedroom cabins.
While the park features group lodging, it hasn't had any cabins since the old park was torn down to make way for the expansion of Lake Fort Smith.
“Something that we promised when the old park closed was that we were going to try to develop everything back that we had at the park and this is pretty well the final phase of that,” Gossage said.
Gossage feels the new cabins will help meet their tourism needs.
“The cabins at the former park were very popular and we feel like these will be the same," he said.
Construction is expected to be completed in December or early January.
