Rogers–Rogers Heritage had a chance to claim the 2012 7-A West baseball championship with a doubleheader sweep of Bentonville Thursday in Rogers. The Tigers were in no mood to cooperate. Bentonville shook off a 3rd inning three-run home run by pitcher Hunter Wood and came roaring back for a 12-8 win in game one. The Tigers won the nightcap in a 3-1 pitcher’s duel. Zach McKnight tossed a three-hitter to get the win.
With the sweep Bentonville moved a game up on Heritage with two games to play.
Former Bentonville quarterback Dallas Hardison got the Tigers going in the top of the 4th of game one. With Heritage leading 3-1 Hardison smacked a down-the-line double to left off of Wood with runners at first and second cutting the War Eagles lead to 3-2.
Hunter Boydston then sent a gapper to left center that made it to the fence. Two runs scored and Bentonville had the lead back at 4-3.The Tigers went on to load the bases and then chased Wood from the mound on a grand slam by Trenton Hill.
