May 1, 2012 is a very special day for residents in Fort Smith… At least it is for the early birds.

The first ever Dunkin’ Donuts to land in the city of Fort Smith will open up in that morning.  While it is not the first Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in Arkansas, it is the first one in the River Valley area.

The new restaurant is located at Phoenix Avenue and 74th Street.

The 2,500-square-foot shop will seat 29 people and will offer Wi-Fi and outdoor seating. The doors will open at 5 a.m. and close at 11 p.m.

The new restaurant is one of seven units that are to be developed in Fort Smith and Northwest Arkansas by Littlefield Oil Co. The remaining six restaurants are expected to open by 2018.

The Phoenix Avenue shop is part of a convenience-store complex that includes JAM Mart, a high-end convenience store that will be open 24/7, as well as a Valero gas station.

Hundreds of people have already “Liked” the Fort Smith Dunkin’ Donuts Page on Facebook, and store employees say several people have said they plan to camp out ahead of the doughnut shop’s opening.
