The Salvation Army of Fort Smith received a big donation from local trucking companies Monday.
USA Truck, Truck Centers of Arkansas, and Daimler Freightliner gave the Salvation Army a 24 foot box truck, valued at $70,102.
"Our team members and the Salvation Army share a spirit of giving and a deep pride in calling the River Valley home," said Cliff Beckham, President and CEO, USA Truck. "We have long partnered with the Salvation Army on holiday toy and clothes drives, so we are excited to take that partnership to a higher level.”
Captain Carlyle Gargis says the new truck is at least twice the size of their current truck.
The old truck is on its last leg, according to Gargis, which made this donation even more important.
“This is a huge gift for us, we are so excited about being able to have this access to the community, to be able to provide pick up for donations and serving our community at an even higher and greater level," he said.
Captain Gargis says the Salvation Army will use the truck to pick up large donations to sell at their thrift store or give to families in need. The money made at the Fort Smith store is used to provide shelter, housing, meals and a whole list of social services to the area.
"We recognize the good that the Salvation Army does in the River Valley and, as residents in the community ourselves, we are pleased to help assist in their efforts," said Scott Manchester, VP of Sales for Truck Centers of Arkansas.
