Arsaga’s in Northwest Arkansas is a business that supports the local arts scene. The store located on Crossover and Mission is showcasing works from Jr. High Students from the Fayetteville Public Schools.
Charity McCartney is an art teacher at McNair Middle School and she’s been presenting this show for the last ten years.
“I started doing the Arsaga's show in 1999. I am an avid coffee drinker and I walked in and asked the manager if I could show children's work,” said McCartney.
McCartney says the shop has a variety of different works from a variety of different students. “It shows their likes and dislikes. It's a gorgeous show and it's the variety that will bring them in.”
The kids complete the paintings at school, and then they have the option to sell them at Arsaga’s.
The owner of Arsaga’s is kind enough to funnel all of the profits back to the kids.
“Usually in any kind of venue 10 to 20 percent would be taken off the price of the work. But Andrea Allen the owner of this location won't take any of the money. What the kids like is they get to keep the money.”
So the kids are learning to be creative and how to profit on the deal.
“I heard the other day that one of my previous students just was offered a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute. We're very excited about that. She has had her work displayed here.’’
The artwork in Arsaga’s will only be on display for a few more days.
