The Fayetteville Police Department is stepping up traffic enforcement in an effort to reduce vehicle accidents on College Avenue.

The Fayetteville Police Department is adding traffic enforcement on Thursday, May 10 at the intersection of Joyce Boulevard and College Avenue.

Officers say the goal is to bring awareness to drivers regarding traffic collisions and hopefully reduce the number of accidents on College Avenue.

The officers will be utilizing marked and unmarked units during the directed enforcement.

Police say they plan to look for the following violations:

  • Following too close
  • Failure to yield
  • Failure to signal turn or lane changes
  • Improper right turn
  • Disobeying traffic signals

According to Fayetteville Police, those violations have consistently been the most common contributing factors to traffic crashes in Fayetteville and nationwide.

The directed enforcement will work other intersections along College Avenue, on different dates, and keep the public notified as to where and when the enforcements will take place.

The Fayetteville Police Department says the enforcement campaign is part of a comprehensive plan to improve transportation safety in the City of Fayetteville.
