Crystal Bridges Hosts Mother’s Day Extravaganza

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville put together a special event for Mother’s Day, the Trunk Show Extravaganza.

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville put together a special event for Mother's Day, the Trunk Show Extravaganza.

The show featured three jewelry artists from across the country including work from Kate Baer, Carrie Siegfried-Haase and Valerie Sanson.

Grandmothers, mothers, daughters and many more filled Crystal Bridge's museum shop Mother’s Day weekend for the first annual trunk show.

The special event featured three jewelry artists from around the country.

"Families here come and visit the museum as a unit and it's nice to see mothers have chosen this place to be for Mother's Day,” said Sanson, one of the artists.

Sanson is not a mother, but she brought her work all the way from Richmond, Virginia for this Mother's Day event.

"I have things that range from young mothers to senior mothers and it's heart-warming. Like I said, not having a mother and not being a mother, it's nice to see people enjoying the day together."

Many mother-daughter duos spent the day at the museum. Sharon Croddy and her daughter, Cat, spend every Mother's Day together; but, they said this one was extra special.

"We are kind of the only family each other has, locally. All of our family is out of state. We really depend on each other,” said Cat.

“Her dad died, my husband, and so we are just even closer, so it's wonderful," Sharon said.

In fact, they had so much fun, they said, they might just make this a yearly visit.

"This could be a fun tradition to start,” Cat said.

Diana Walpole spent several months preparing for the trunk show extravaganza. She said all of the hard work paid off.

"Their faces said it all, smiling happy people, enjoying time together with their families, that's what it's all about," said Walpole.

The Mother's Day trunk show wrapped up Sunday night but, the museum’s gift shop is open every day, except Tuesdays.

Crystal Bridges Museum will host another trunk show in June.
