Poteau Student Killed in Car Wreck

A LeFlore County teen was killed when her vehicle struck a tree Thursday morning.

According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol accident report, Paige Underwood, 16, of Shady Point, was driving eastbound on a county road near Calhoun when her vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, down a ravine and hit a tree.

Underwood was pinned in the Pontiac passenger car for 45 minutes before Shady Point and Panama Fire Departments could free her.

The Poteau Daily News reports Underwood was on her way to Poteau High School where she is a soccer player.
