FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas head football coach John L. Smith was in Fayetteville for the Northwest Arkansas Razorback Club 2012 Banquet Wednesday night.

Head women’s basketball coach Tom Collen was also there.

Before the banquet, Smith met with the media in a conference room to answer questions about the coming season.

“We’re going to have to stay healthy,” Smith said. “Our offense is going to be pretty good. We think we can score some points off some people.”

Discipline was a major factor for Smith. The coach said wide receivers Marquel Wade, Maudrecus Humphrey and tight end Andrew Peterson are not a part of the team right now.

The three were arrested earlier this month on felony burglary charges, and are not currently enrolled at Arkansas.

Despite the three absences, Smith is optimistic about the offense. The defense, on the other hand, will need some work.

“Defensively, we’re going to have to stay healthy,” Smith said. “We can’t afford to lose anybody because, on that side of the ball, we just don’t have the depth that we need in certain spots. Knock on wood, we’ll have some luck to go with it.”

Arkansas opens the season Sept. 1 at home against Jacksonville State.
