Two Little Rock Police officers have been arrested on charges of ushering illegal shipments of marijuana through the city while on duty.

Federal officials announced the arrests of officers Mark Anthony Jones, 45, and Randall Tremayn Robinson, 38. The men are half-brothers, according to a press release from the U.S. attorney’s office.  

The officers are accused of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute more than 1,400 pounds of marijuana, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

According to the affidavit filed in support of a complaint, beginning in early 2012, Jones was involved in the protection of three drug deliveries while on duty and driving a marked patrol car. The deliveries were monitored by the FBI.

Robinson was involved with Jones in the third drug delivery, which occurred on March 22. While protecting the marijuana delivery, Robinson was also driving a marked patrol car and on duty.

“Those who are sworn to uphold the law are not above the law themselves,” U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Thyer said in the press release.“The Little Rock Police Department is an institution filled with honest and hard-working professionals who risk their lives daily for the safety of its citizens.”

Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas Chief Thomas called the arrests disheartening.
