BEST START: Two Chicken Pox Shots Before Kindergarten
Dr. Susan Averitt, with Best Start pediatric clinic, says the chicken pox is rarely seen anymore, however, the vaccine is needed to enter Kindergarten.
The first dose of the chicken pox vaccine is given to children at one year. A second dose is recommended, and now required in the state of Arkansas before children enter school.
“The best thing to do is to have yearly checkups with you pediatrician or your provider and at each checkup, we review the vaccines that the child has had and we also provide any vaccines that the child would need,” Dr. Averitt said.
