An intoxicated man faces several charges after reportedly biting a Fort Smith police officer at the Kelley Highway Walmart, according to Sgt. Brian Rice.

Jason Marshall became violent after having a seizure at the store around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Rice.

When officers arrived at the scene, Marshall tried to fight and ran behind a Walmart counter, according to Sgt. Rice.

Marshall started biting at several officers when they tried to handcuff him, police say. One officer had to seek medical attention after Marshall bit through his skin causing him to bleed, according to investigators.

Officers used a Taser in an effort to subdue Marshall, but Sgt. Rice said it was not effective.

Police had to put a mask over Marshall’s face to keep him from biting emergency responders, Rice said.

Eyewitnesses tell 5NEWS the man was scaring customers and employees, because he was jumping around and yelling.

Marshall was drunk and had to sober up before being booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center, Rice said.

Officers involved reported Marshall had a history of having seizures.

Marshall is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center. He faces battery, assault, resisting arrest, and public intoxication charges.
