Bond was set Friday for a Johnson County man arrested after he shot his stepson, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.

District Judge Len Bradley set a $15,000 bond for Rodney Krachey.

Krachey was arrested on several battery charges and for possession of a fire arm outside his home on the corner of Highway 64 and Kinney Street in Coal Hill just before 3 a.m.

Witnesses told deputies that Krachey found a 13-year-old boy near the mobile home trying to talk to a 14-year-old girl inside. Krachey ordered the boy off of the property but a fight ensued, deputies say.

The boy eventually left according to witnesses, but Krachey believed he’d gone to a rock building on the property where Krachey’s stepson Matthew Smith, 18, lived.

According to the report, Krachey ordered Smith and two others to leave then fired a round from his shotgun into the air. As Smith was gathering his things, he fired back with his own shot gun, hitting a truck in the yard, deputies say.

Deputies say Krachey fired again hitting Smith in the torso, neck and head, as he walked along Highway 64. No word on his current condition.
