Officials near Alma captured a 150-pound black bear in a rural neighborhood Sunday after several sightings were reported by residents.

The bear was located on private property near Highway 71 and Highway 282, according to the Crawford County sheriff’s office.

The bear had climbed up a tree on the fenced property of a small wildlife preserve. The spot is not far from the Ozark National Forest wildlife area.

The sheriff’s office started getting 911 calls about the bear about 7:30 a.m. The state Game and Fish Commission sent a biologist to help local authorities search.

The bear, which is a yearling, was tranquilized and brought down from the tree. It will be moved to another location.
