Murder Suspect Stabs Inmate at Jail
A Sallisaw man jailed on first degree murder charges stabbed another inmate at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center in Fort Smith Monday.
Brandon Fritts, 30, used a sharp plastic object to stab Robert Clifton around 10:30 a.m., according to Major Kevin Nickson with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.
Clifton suffered superficial wounds to his neck and arm. He was taken to the emergency room and then released back into the custody of the jail, Nickson says.
Nickson says Fritts confessed to stabbing the other inmate and said the fight stemmed from an incident that happened prior to both of them being incarcerated.
Fritts, of Sallisaw, Okla., is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Jamie Lee Czek, 36, of Kibler.
Czek’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an alley near S. 17th and “Q” Streets on Jan. 3. Fritts was developed as a suspect after officers interviewed several “associates” of the two, police say.
