The Arkansas Diamond Hogs beat two-time defending champions and the No. 7 South Carolina Gamecocks, 2-1, Monday night in the College World Series in Omaha.

The win improves the Razorbacks to 46-20 on the year. The Diamond Hog victory also snapped South Carolina’s 22-game NCAA post-season winning streak, pushing the Gamecocks to 46-18.

Arkansas will go on to play the winner of Kent State and South Carolina at 8 p.m. on Thursday. Thursday’s game will be televised on ESPN2. The Diamond Hogs defeated Kent State Saturday, 8-1.

The Diamond Hogs will continue to play in Omaha at least until Friday.

On Monday, two Razorback pitchers, Ryne Stanek and Barret Astin shared the mound stranding six Gamecocks on base.

However, Stanek (now 8-4) earned the win on the mound after throwing six innings and allowing just one run on three hits with three strikeouts. The sophomore right hander lowered his season ERA to 2.82, according to the University.

Bo Bigham had two hits, which led the Razorbacks at the plate. Dominic Ficociello and Matt Vinson each added a RBI in the win.

This is the first time Arkansas has started 2-0 in the College World Series since 1979 when they lost the Championship Series.

South Carolina came to Baum Stadium the first week of May and won two of three games against the Diamond Hogs.

The 46 wins for Arkansas are the most in a single season under head coach Dave Van Horn.
