BEST START: Preventing Tick Bites This Summer
Dr. Susan Averitt, with Best Start pediatric clinic, says summer is prime time for ticks. She says the key to reducing chances for tick bites is wearing long sleeves and pants and wearing bug spray.
“There is no real way to prevent tick bites,” Dr. Averitt said. “Get the kind of bug spray with deet. You can get it with up to 30% deet and still be safe for your kid.”
She said if you do get a tick, the best way to remove it is with a pair of tweezers and lift up, so the tick lets go. Dr. Averitt says to make sure not to pull or tug.
