Hogs Look to Thursday’s Game
With two straight wins to open the College World Series comes an extra day off this week for the Razorbacks.
The Hogs were back at practice Tuesday. They’ll play again on Thursday. The starter for Thursday’s game has yet to be announced, but Coach Dave Van Horn says he is leaning in one direction.
“Leaning towards Fant, just because of the situation,” he said. “He’s a starter, but he’s kind of one of those guys, we don’t want to him, we don’t expect him to go really more than three or four or five innings. If he gives us three, we got everybody ready in the bullpen, and if it goes good, great, we’ll move on to the next series.”
Even though the pressure is on, Arkansas Junior LHP Randall Fant seems ready.
“Coach wants me to go four, and I’ll try to give him four of my best quality innings, so just try to continue what I’ve been doing,” Fant said. “We don’t want to slack off. We got a pretty good run going, so I don’t want to be the one to let it down.”
He’s got the support of his teammates.
“We know that whoever pitches for us, we’re going to be in the ballgame at the end, because of how good they are, and we just have to play good defense and score some runs behind him and we’ll have a chance to win every game,” said senior second baseman Bo Bigham.
Thursday’s game will be a rematch no matter what, either against Kent State or South Carolina.
Van Horn says his guys aren’t cheering one way or the other. They’re just focused on going out, ‘playing it one game at a time.’
