The 2012 Summer Olympics, a dream for many, is now attainable for a certain group of Razorback track stars.

The USA Track and Field Olympic Trials will be held in Eugene, Ore., June 22-July 1.

Stephanie Brown who runs the 800m and 1,500m, Caleb Cross who runs the 400m hurdles, Kevin Lazas who participates in the decathlon and pole vaulter Andrew Irwin are preparing for the trials this week.

The Olympic hopefuls are looking to sport the red, white and blue and represent the United States in this year’s summer Olympics.

“Being able to be in Oregon and against professional athletes, it’s just a dream come true,” said Cross.

Lazas said he is where he is today because of his coaches and even though he is one of the best athletes in the nation, he still said there is room for improvement.

“I have learned so much more here and I just keep getting better and better in every single event that I am doing,” said Lazas. They have just taught me so much. Hopefully I can keep it rolling through the years, and get better and better to get to the next level and be the top.”

Brown has been recognized as one of the top women runners in the nation.

“Actually going to the trials, it’s just crazy to me to think that I am top 30 in the nation,” said Brown. “I’m getting one step closer every year.”

Cross, an Arkansas native, is also happy to represent his home state this summer.

“Oh, it means so much, I mean, even when I was a little kid I just heard so much about being a Razorback and national championships and I’m just ready to be out there and represent the cardinal and white,” said Cross.

The Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games is on Friday, July 27, 2012.
