Four people were arrested Monday night after drug task force agents found black tar heroin cooking in a home on the north side of Fort Smith.

Oliver Sparks, of Irving, Texas, Ashley Ensey, Keeton Wheeler, and Dylan Dempsey, all of Fort Smith, were arrested at 1922 Johnson Avenue on charges of possession with intent to deliver and several other possession charges, according to Philip Pevehouse with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office.

Agents with the 12th and 21st Judicial Drug Task Force executed a search warrant and found pure morphine, black tar heroin, a large quantity of Ecstasy pills, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the home.

Pevehouse said some of the morphine was in the process of “cooking” to make black tar heroin.

The street value of the drugs was more than $12,000, Pevehouse said. Agents also seized $419 dollars.

Investigators say black tar heroin is new to the area.

“Seems to be one that people prefer because it’s cheaper,” said Pevehouse.

Deputies believe the adults kept the drugs hidden inside a container labeled the “magic box.” Pevehouse says they found the container inside a child’s bedroom at the home. Investigators believe the suspects may have done drugs a child, believed to be 8 or 9 years old, at the house.

The arrests come as no surprise for neighbors who admit the area is not the best.

“In a way, this is the side of town for you know those things and actually, it’s anywhere now,” said Isaac Hardgrave, a neighbor.

Sparks was also wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a warrant out of Fort Worth, Texas, according to Pevehouse. Dempsey had an outstanding warrant out of Sebastian County for Sexual Indecency with a Child.

Sebastian County SWAT, Barling Police, Lavaca Police, and Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the search of the home and arrests.
