Incumbent Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart defeated Sam Hill, Jr. in Tuesday’s Democratic Primary.
Lockhart took 76% of the vote. Hill trailed with 24% of the vote.
People waited outside the election board in Sallisaw Tuesday night as the results came in. Lockhart says he is thankful for people who voted despite the heat. Lockhart says he saved the county money and got new equipment.
“We’ve increased deputies and lowered costs for the county,” said Lockhart. “We’ve had more patrols out, more deputies out. We’ve got the night shift now out. We’re not gone change a thing. We’re going to continue what we’ve being doing,” he said.
Lockhart will face Republican Larry Lane in the November general election.
