FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas junior pitcher DJ Baxendale has signed a professional contract with the Minnesota Twins.
Baxendale was picked in the tenth round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, no. 310 overall. He’ll begin his career with the Elizabethton Twins in rookie ball.
The right-hander set a new Arkansas record with 20 starts in 2012, and finished the season 8-5 with a 3.11 ERA, including a 6.1 innings, one run performance in the Hogs’ opening game of the College World Series against Kent State.
Baxendale appeared in 68 games in his three years at Arkansas, including 35 starts. He finishes his Razorback career ranked eighth in career earned run average (2.71), tied for sixth in appearance, tied for eighth in saves (10) and ninth in strikeouts (217).
He becomes the third Razorback to sign, after Matt Reynolds inked with the Mets and Sam Bates did so with the Royals.
