Local listeners have enjoyed listening to Big Michael Kaufman for many years on KIX Country 104.

He’s a local radio host, and he also does announcing work for commercials.  A few years ago he auditioned to become the ‘’Voice of the LPGA Tour’’ and he nailed it right down the middle.

Big Michael’s daughter had expressed a desire to play on the LPGA Tour one day, and now her Dad is already involved with the tour.

Kaufman was surprised to get the call.

“It was probably an audition that I would have never sent in for, but I thought how fun would that be.”

The audition called for announcers to create a character of a southern police officer that could be used in promotion of a single tournament.

Big Michael came with the winner in his southern drawl.

“When I did it.. I did it southern cop style. Alright ma’am let me see your DL and registration. You know, one of those things. Real Cheesy.”

But it worked, and soon Big Michael from Fayetteville was the full-time voice of the LPGA Tour.

“They called me back and said how’d you like to do the rest of our stuff? Ever since then I’ve done everything from awards programs, events, and things like please put away your cell phones and cameras, no coolers allowed.”

Now when you see the national commercials promoting the LPGA Tour, just remember that those amazing pipes belong to one of our own.

Big Michael Kaufman is ‘’Keeping it Local’’ and going worldwide at the very same time.
