A grass fire threatened a Fort Smith apartment complex today.

Fire officials say it started this afternoon near the Links Apartments on Zero Street.

The fire started in a field when a person hit a rock while baling hay, officials believe.

It burned about 20 acres and came close to the Links property, but firefighters were able to knock the blaze back down.

The shifting wind made it more difficult.
