Washington County Circuit Judge William Storey on Thursday gave Ricky Ray Anderson and the county prosecuting attorney’s office until Aug. 3 to submit additional documents in the convicted killer’s claim that his previous legal representation was ineffective.

Prosecuting Attorney John Threet is representing the defense attorneys who Anderson claims did not adequately represent him. Anderson was sentenced to life in prison for stabbing a Fayetteville woman to death in 2009.

Storey on Thursday asked both sides to present “findings of fact” and “conclusions of law” to assist the judge in making a ruling.

Shackled and in striped, gray prison garb, Anderson questioned his former defense attorneys Cristi Beaumont and Ray Niblock during the Rule 37 hearing, asserting they failed him during the 2010 murder trial.

Beaumont and Niblock are among at least seven lawyers who represented Anderson during his capital murder trial.

In September 2010, Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without parole. He convicted June 26, 2009, slaying of 26-year-old Jill Ulmer in her Fayetteville apartment.

Ulmer was stabbed 26 times, according to testimony.

Authorities said that when officers arrived at the apartment they heard Ulmer screaming, and fired several rounds through a window at Ulmer’s attacker before entering. Police said one round struck Ulmer, who was on the floor bleeding from multiple stab wounds. An autopsy report said either the gunshot wound or the 26 stab wounds could have been fatal, according to the Associated Press.
