The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office has halted their search of the Arkansas River for the body of a missing man.

The search started Saturday morning at Wilson Rock Boat Ramp after a man who was noodling near Mayo Dam reported he felt what he thought was a human leg, said Sheriff Ron Lockhart. The body could be Glen Ray Cook, Jr., of Fort Smith, according to Lockhart.

One Oklahoma Highway Patrol boat and two Sequoyah County boats searched a two-mile stretch on each side of the location over the weekend.

OHP Lake Patrol continued searching Monday, but found nothing.

Cook’s family reported him missing back in June after his vehicle was found in an area known as the Muldrow Bottoms at the Mayo Dam on a sand bar, according to Sheriff Lockhart.

The sheriff called this case “suspicious” when it first happened.

The family told police Cook is a paranoid schizophrenic who stopped taking his medications.
