Mom of Dead Child Dragged By Mule: “I’m very mad”
Marrissa Dodson is coping with the death of her daughter.
Seven-year-old Shianne Nicole Lane was killed Wednesday after being dragged by a mule at a relative’s property in Benton County.
The girl’s great grandfather says he was watching her minutes before it happened, but went inside to get a cup of a coffee.
The mother says someone should’ve been watching her child.
“I’m very mad because there were four adults there and nobody was watching her, nobody in their right mind would let a seven-year-old kid go out and ride an animal or be around animals like that by themselves,” says Dodson.
Dodson says her daughter tied a rope around her waist and attached it the mule, and she fears Shianne was alone for quite a while.
“Nobody even knew until somebody came up and told them,” says Dodson. “I’m pretty sure they said it was her neck was broke and her spinal cord.”
Shianne’s little sister, Brook, says the mule named Daisy Mae was part of the family.
“She was like a pet; she was nice until what happened to my sister,” adds Brook.
Shianne was going to be a second grader at Lowell Elementary School, but now Brook, only a year younger, holds on to the memories of playing with her sister.
“We always go play hide and go seek, I hide behind this tree back here sometimes she can’t find me,” says Brook. “And then riding my bike with her, having a race.”
Memories cherished, they will never forget Shianne Nicole Lane.
“If you could see Sissy one more time what would you tell her?” asks Dodson as she holds Brook in her arms. Brook responds “I love her.”
