A scare that sent the bomb squad to a Greenwood park ended in a false alarm.

The squad was called to Bell Park at about 2 p.m. after the Greenwood Fire Department found a rock with two wires in it during a regular inspection of the park, said Brandon Davis, public information officer with the Greenwood Police Department.

Davis said the bomb squad believes the rock came from a blasting done a few years ago to make room for a new sports field.

The scene was cleared after about an hour, and the area was cleared as safe, Davis said.
