Mitchell to Work out at Wide Reciever
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Brandon Mitchell is now officially a member of the Razorback wide receiving corps, according to offensive coordinator Paul Petrino.
At the annual coaches/media golf scramble Thursday at Paradise Valley, Petrino confirmed the rumor that Mitchell had been working out with the receivers this summer.
“It was Brandon and Tyler [Wilson’s] idea, to be honest with you,” Petrino said. “They got together with each other and felt like Brandon’s a great athlete and he’s a leader, and it’s going to help us get another leader on the field. They got together and then Tyler came to me.”
Mitchell will still be a quarterback, and still battle for the number two spot with redshirt freshman Brandon Allen, but will split his practice time between the two positions.
“What we’re going to do, he’s still going to meet with us,” Petrino said, meaning he and the quarterbacks. “He’ll still meet in the quarterback room all the time, because we always want to go over everything anyway. He’s smart enough that he’ll understand the plays. Technique-wise, there will be times in practice where he’ll go with [wide receivers] Coach [Cinkovich].”
The Hogs start preseason workouts Aug. 2, and the season opens Sept. 1 at home against Jacksonville State.
