If you go on the University of Arkansas campus you may notice lots of construction, right now there are almost 30 projects underway.

From the Centennial Gate, improvements to Ozark Hall, dorms and the renovation and expansion of one of the oldest buildings on campus.

“Vol walker hill is renovation of aboriginal bold walker building. The first purpose library in campus but we are adding on the addition is being funded by gifts and grants,” says Mike Johnson, Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities.

UA officials say they are able to increase the green space and density, not by expanding the campus, but by building up.

“We may find a building that occupies three floors 8,000 to 10,000 square feet we can replace a little bit bigger footprint we can replace with a four or five story building with 50,000 to 60,000 square feet so, we can add five times the capacity,” explains Johnson.

Johnson says six projects are in the planning phases, including the concert house at the field house and three athletic projects.

“One is the basketball practice facility, one is the dining facility, and the last one is the basketball and track indoor training facility.”

Johnson says some projects will be completed before school starts later this month, like the expansion of the Jean Tyson Child Development Study Center and the new football practice field.
