Washington County Circuit Judge William Storey on Friday gave Ricky Ray Anderson and the county prosecuting attorney’s office until Sept. 14 to submit additional documents in the convicted killer’s claim that his previous legal representation was ineffective.

The documents originally were due Friday, but Storey granted an extension, officials said.

Prosecuting Attorney John Threet is representing the defense attorneys who Anderson claims did not adequately represent him. Anderson was sentenced to life in prison for stabbing a Fayetteville woman to death in 2009.

Storey last month asked both sides to present “findings of fact” and ”conclusions of law” to assist the judge in making a ruling on Anderson’s claim about his legal representation.

At last month’s hearing, Anderson represented himself, questioning his former defense attorneys Cristi Beaumont and Ray Niblock and asserting they failed him during the 2010 capital murder trial.

Beaumont and Niblock are among at least seven lawyers who represented Anderson during the trial.

In September 2010, Anderson was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the June 26, 2009, slaying of 26-year-old Jill Ulmer in her Fayetteville apartment.

Ulmer was stabbed 26 times, according to testimony.

Authorities said that when officers arrived at the apartment they heard Ulmer screaming, and fired several rounds through a window at Ulmer’s attacker before entering. Police said one round struck Ulmer, who was on the floor bleeding from multiple stab wounds. An autopsy report said either the gunshot wound or the 26 stab wounds could have been fatal.
