A tip called in to the River Valley Crime Stoppers helped Fort Smith officers arrest a woman accused of taking $300 from a Mansfield mother’s diaper bag.

Shanika Elysia Royal was arrested on a charge of theft of lost or misplaced property Wednesday in the 3200 block of North Point in connection with a theft at Target on Phoenix Avenue.

Royal is being held in the Sebastian County Detention Center on a $1,945 bond. Police say she also had two outstanding warrants for failure to pay fines.

On June 20, the theft victim told police she unknowingly left her diaper bag in a shopping cart while inside Target. Surveillance video showed a black woman carry the diaper bag into the women’s bathroom. She later walks out without the bag, according to a police report.
