Woman Shot In Fayetteville Dies
Fayetteville police say the woman shot in the head Sunday on Wedington Drive died Monday at 10 a.m.
Jessica Stewart, 39, died in Washington Regional Medical Center after the shooting at 2228 W. Wedington Drive.
Police are searching for suspect Eric Thomas Frankenhauser, 41, according to a police news release. A warrant was issued for Frankenhauser on charges of attempted capital murder and first-degree battery without a bond.
He may be driving a white, 2005 Hyundai Elantra with Arkansas vehicle license 153RRA. Police said the car belongs to the victim and the suspect might be in the Philadelphia area.
“We know he’s originally from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. We are reaching out to those law enforcement agencies up there,” police Cpl. Craig Stout said.
He is considered armed and dangerous. Police provided a photo of Frankenhauser to 5NEWS, but said he shaves his head now.
Next door neighbors said the suspect was Stewart’s boyfriend. They remember her as a sweet woman.
“It was very sad. I feel so bad for her children,” next door neighbor Cathy Duck said with tears in her eyes.
Heather Barlett, who also lives next door, said she’s still shaken up.
“It’s scary to know that that happened right next door. We could have been killed, somebody else could have been killed besides Jessica,” Barlett said.
Police got a 911 call at 8:52 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found Stewart laying wounded in the front yard, police said.
Police sent a SWAT team to the house early Sunday, because the shooter was believed to still be in the home. However, officers said before noon on Sunday they didn’t think the suspected shooter was inside anymore.
Fire vehicles and EMS blocked Wedington Drive for hours between Porter Road and Sang Avenue.
“If our team makes entry or this guy starts shooting, we want to make sure everyone is safe, bullets can travel great distances so that’s why we took the advantage of blocking it off from that distance,” Stout said from the scene Sunday morning.
Neighbors were evacuated and others like Noel Corwin, 41, were told to stay inside.
“Police told us to stay in the other side of the house,” Corwin said.
“(It’s) surreal, right across the street from your house. This is the stuff you see on TV,” Corwin said.
Police surrounded three homes with crime scene tape, 2240 Wedington is where the victim lives, 2228 is where she was found shot, and 2214 is where EMS took her and gave her CPR.
Police said they don’t yet know the relationship between Stewart and Frankenhauser.
An investigation is continuing.
