A couple lost much of their hay crop in a fire just west of Springdale on Thursday afternoon.

Larry and Nelva House received a call from their neighbor saying their hay field was on fire. Crews from Cave Springs and Springdale responded to the fire at 1551 Elm Springs Road near Elm Springs at about 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames away from the house and barn, but the fire raged through about 75 acres across several properties.

The House family lost nine hay bales in the fire, which accounts for more than $1,000, Larry House said.

No injuries were reported from the fire.
