Estrogen Positive & Negative Breast Cancer

What is the difference between estrogen
positive breast cancer and negative breast cancer?

All breast tissue and many tissues throughout the body have receptors on the cells, much like hairs.  These hairs or receptors allow the tissue to respond to the estrogen in the patients system like when you have your period or are pregnant.

When a breast cancer still has the capability to make these receptors this is a good thing.  The breast cancer is still organized enough to make these receptors, so ER PR + tumors are felt to have a better prognosis.  This is one of the many factors your doctor will look at to evaluate the need for additional treatment and to give you an idea of the prognosis of your diagnosis.
