A family’s dream to build a race track in LeFlore County is finally taking off. Owner of Raceday Park, Jace Tanguay, says the new tracks are drawing dozens of motocross riders to the area.

“It’s a family passion that we have,” said Tanguay. “We’ve had it forever.”

Since most motocross tracks are at least an hour away from Tanguay in Poteau, he and his race loving family had a vision. They wanted to build a family oriented park for riders of all ages.

“We’re going to have a vet track in the back, main track, 14 acres here in the middle,” said Tanguay. “The pee-wee track over here.”

The Tanguays paid for the project out of their own pockets. What was once a 42 acre pasture along Highway 112 between Cameron and Poteau is now attracting dozens of riders. He says the park is only 50% complete, but is open to use.

The track was designed for people of all ages at all different riding levels to enjoy. The development even had some help from a pro.

“I shoot videos of all the tracks that I’ve been to before and whenever I get done with that, I put them on my computer and bring them to Jace,” said professional motocross rider Ashleigh Hall.

Hall, who claimed the Amateur National Title in 2010, says Tanguay pieced the park together using ideas from the other tracks.

“All the jumps are a little different,” said Hall. “They take different speeds, different techniques to do different things.”

Riders like Tim Tucker who haven’t been on a bike for decades can rev up their engines and start making jumps.

“Any rider of any level can come out here and be challenged and not get hurt,” said Tucker.

The family oriented park is expected to start hosting races in October. Tanguay says local dealership sponsors will provide prizes. The project is expected to be complete with concessions, bleachers, and even RV Park by December.

“It’s really nice,” said Hall. “It’s something we’ve needed in this area for a long time.”

“It’s just a dream come true for us,” said Tanguay.
