Two brothers accused of murdering a Fort Smith woman pleaded not guilty to first degree murder charges before special judge Jeff Singer in a Poteau courtroom Thursday afternoon.

The brothers are accused of killing 22-year-old Brianna Ault and dumping her body in a pond near Pocola in September 2010.

Elvis Thacker asked for a court-appointed attorney, while his brother Johnathen asked the judge if he could call home and raise money for an attorney.

Johnathen will be allowed to raise the funds for an attorney until Sept. 6, according to district attorney Jeff Smith.

The brothers will appear in court again on Sept. 25.

Smith plans to try the brothers together, he said Thursday. Both men are currently being held in the LeFlore County Detention Center.

The Thackers were already serving time in Arkansas after pleading guilty to unrelated rape and kidnapping charges, as well as, attempted capital murder of a Fort Smith Police officer.
