Unseasonable heat will continue for a few days before a cold front changes everything for the weekend.

In the wake of Isaac’s remnants, we welcomed warm west winds which pushed temperatures well above normal. Highs early this week have touched 100º. Normal highs this time of year are 90º for Fort Smith and 86º for Fayetteville. Record highs are just beyond reach in the 104-109º range.

A strong cold front will start to affect the region sometime late in the week offering more rain chances and the possibility of severe weather. But, most notably, we’ll see a large drop in temperatures with highs falling into the upper 70s and low 80s for the weekend.

Here’s a look at temperatures in the lower part of the atmosphere on Tuesday night.

Compare that picture with highs falling into the 70s for the weekend.

Big changes are ahead!!
