Illegal explosives and a grenade simulator were found at a residence in the 2500 block of Phoenix Avenue in Fort Smith while deputies were enforcing the foreclosure of a home Thursday.
Gregory Beck, 49, was arrested on charges of possession of narcotics paraphernalia, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice, and weapons and explosives charges, according to Sebastian Co. Sheriff’s Office Investigator Philip Pevehouse.
Beck was being removed from the property per an order from a court. Sebastian County deputies escorted him back into the home to collect some personal items, Pevehouse said.
While inside a deputy saw what he believed to be a grenade on the coffee table in the living room. They also discovered two other explosive devices, according to Pevehouse.
Detectives with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Fort Smith Fire Department Bomb Squad were called to the scene.
Two loaded weapons, including a homemade “zip” gun and a .22 rifle that had been sawed off, were found in Beck’s car, Pevehouse said.
Deputies also found two scales commonly used in narcotics sales, a device used to smoke marijuana and several needles.
Beck was taken into custody.
The Fort Smith Fire Department will destroy the explosive devices found, according to officials.
