Man Wrecks After Leading Police On Motorcycle Chase
A Fayetteville man wrecked his motorcycle after leading police on a chase near the university Monday.
Roger Robert Smith, 23, remains in the Washington County Detention Center on $4,500 bond. He faces charges of felony fleeing, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, driving while intoxicated and operating a motorcycle without a license.
A University of Arkansas officer said he saw Smith driving his motorcycle recklessly on Maple Street early Monday morning. Smith was traveling at 45 miles per hour, 20 miles over the posted speed limit, the officer said.
Smith slowed down while passing the officer’s squad car, then sped back up when police tried to stop him, according to a preliminary arrest report.
After following Smith for several turns and losing him, police found Smith’s motorcycle in a ditch, with Smith nearby. Police apprehended Smith after a brief foot chase. Emergency personnel treated Smith for minor injuries before police placed him under arrest.
