Investigators say someone slashed tires at several homes in a Fort Smith neighborhood over the weekend. Police estimate the damage could cost some hundreds of dollars.

“Saturday morning I got up, doorbell rang, and when I went to the door it was a Fort Smith police officer,” said Ralph Mills, a victim.

Someone slashed one of Mills’ tires overnight Friday. “When they cut them they cut them on the side wall and those can't be repaired,” he said.

Investigators confirm a total of seven different homes just off Cavanaugh Road were all hit on the same night.

“It's kind of aggravating cause it's probably some teenagers coming by and doing it, and it makes us teenagers look bad,” said Tiffany Spicer, a victim.

Police say it seems like the same suspect slashed the tires. Officers agree kids could be responsible.

“I don't think they understand you know how much tires cost,” said Cpl. Steven Dooly.

Officers believe the suspects may have used a small blade knife to slash some of the tires, according to a police report.

Some have already purchased new tires. Officers estimate the replacements could cost hundreds of dollars.

“You just gotta buy a new tire, and see most people's deductible on their insurance is already higher than that so it's just out of pocket money for you,” said Mills.

Because of the vandals, some told 5NEWS they plan to leave cars parked inside the garage from now on.
