Five people were taken to the hospital Saturday night after an accident in Benton County.
It happened about 10:15 p.m. on Highway 62 near Highway 72, the Arkansas State Police said.
John Cook, a volunteer firefighter, heard an emergency tone on his scanner while driving with his wife and two children, state police said.
Cook pulled off the highway and into private drive in order to turn around and head to the Northeast Benton County fire station. As Cook re-entered the highway, a car cresting the hill collided with Cook’s SUV.
Cook, his wife, son and daughter, as well as the driver of the car were all taken to the hospital.
None was seriously injured, state police said.
Cook was cited for failure to yield from private drive.
